Vardzia-Rabati
Tour overview
Visit Rabati (9th century) – the main residence of
the Georgian princely family, House of Jaqeli, and
today, the symbol of tolerance as it elegantly fuses and unifies
different cultures and religions into one complex. Stroll around
the castle-town and travel back in time in the medieval Georgia.
Explore labyrinths, fortresses, cathedrals, mosques and many other
monuments from the Middle Ages – it will stick in your mind
forever. Continue the trip to the Vardzia Monastery Complex
(12th century) – the cave town dating back to the 12th
century during the golden age of the king Tamar and Shota
Rustaveli, where once 30,000 people used to live, but now
is the residence of just several monks. Follow the road near the
banks of Kura River and find the cave-town hidden deep inside the
picturesque wilderness of southern part of the country. Explore the
caves stretched along the cliff for five hundred meters and in up
to nineteen tiers and visit any of the 365 chambers located there
(Each chamber represents each day of the year). Don’t you think
that it’s exciting? Just take the journey and let yourself touch
and feel the centuries old legacy of Georgia.
